Luna attended and graduated both Oak Harbor High School and Skagit Valley College with her diploma and associates degree in June 2020 (Age 18). At the time she was very determined to get started with her holistic healing arts journey.
Luna's original plan was to work in the Physical Therapy field. She spent her spare time shadowing local PTs and getting her associates degree in SVC as she graduated High School. At the college, Luna took classes that were her pre-requisites for her Physical Therapy Assistance program.
Come 2020 and 2021, alike anyone's plans then, Luna found her program delayed but also un-prepared for a partially virtual experience. Apart of her 5-year plan was to study Massage Therapy shortly after going through the other program, although also unavailable for 100% in-person attendance, it was more prepared as it was already a partially online course.
Luna took a year off until finally attending Whatcom Community College's Massage Therapy Program in the Fall of 2021. Graduating the vigorous and medically intensive course and passing the state issued licensing exam in June 2022, Luna started practicing in July 2022.
Starting out working an intensive schedule at a chiropractic office, Luna soon learned how she preferred to work in massage therapy. Learning what she could over the course of the 6 or more months there, she departed into few month sabbatical in 2023.
Shortly after her sabbatical in August of 2023, Luna was approached by a colleague in the field and was brought onto their practice. Although able to freely conduct her work and at her schedule, newer opportunities were on the horizon. And on February 1st, 2024, Luna applied for her LLC, forming Lunar Tides Massage & Wellness LLC.
When Luna attended the Massage Therapy program at WCC, she also was given a brief, yet thorough introduction to a lot of types of massage; swedish, thai, rolfing, treager, cupping, etc. This was to show the therapists attending the program what other paths of massage they could take and what tools they can add to their tool box.
Luna uses a blend of a lot of therapy types, whatever the body, your body, responds to best. And sometimes that takes trial and error, but usually Luna's intuition leads to her finding the effective modalities quickly.
Luna uses effleurage, petrissage, AROM (assisted range of motion) stretches, muscular inhibition, neuromuscular techniques, myofascial techniques, static and dynamic cupping, hydrotherapy (hot and cold application), lymphatic techniques, and other palpatory and treatment techniques that help reveal the tissue's inconsistencies and help them heal. Other modalities are also used, however these are the most frequently used and effective on one's body.
Luna incorporates lighter Swedish touch with deeper tissue work emphasizing in the medical treatment of pain, discomfort, and tension in the body. Everyone's body is different, and sometimes they react differently on different days. Luna's massage is intuitive, knowing what muscles are affected and those around that either help or debilitate you, and knowing what ones treat. All the while prioritizing what effects you the most with the limited amount of time in an appointment.
