Massage has been around historically for years, starting it's own journey in the hearts and minds of those in the Middle East, more specifically, Asia. Over the course of the recent 400 years, Massage made it's way into the USA in the 1700s. Therapists were first referred to as 'rubbers,' and it wasn't until the 1800s that massage was beginning to take flight as a medical practice. In the Middle East, massage was used heavily for its medical benefits at this time, and thanks to the sports and gymnastics industry, in addition to many others, it start to gain the same traction in the USA. But why? What are the benefits to massage?
Nowadays, we aren't climbing trees for bananas, nor are we fighting wild boars. The average person conducts ONLY the activities that follow their interests and career paths. In addition to that, we are tearing our bodies up from ages 18-40 as we pursue the more important things in life. We cannot avoid the damage we do to our bodies, but we can take the necessary self-care to prevent it from hindering us passed the age of 40. Except, not only are we physically destroying ourself, our emotional wellbeing takes its toll on our bodies as well. Stress, believe it or not, translates to our physical selves.
Stress, for all intense purposes, is completely natural. However, we don't need it as much as we did climbing trees for bananas. Back then, it was meant to trigger our 'fight-or-flight' response and release adrenaline. Probably known to you, but adrenaline isn't supposed to be in your body for longer than 10-20 minutes as it makes your body work 10x harder to help you get out of the situation. What you may not realize is that our emotional response of stress for long periods, sustains the duration that your body is working harder, even when the adrenaline has gone.
What does stress have to do with massage benefits? Well, massage is one of the practices that has without a doubt proven it's abilities to improve the wellbeing of the body and brain. Daily emotional stress is one of the most common reasons for hypertonicity (tension) in the body and the referral for massage. Even if you feel that you don't have any underlying issues with your physical being (or maybe you are young and only starting to develop issues unknowingly) massage is proven to make the difference as preventative care; preventing issues from arising in later years. By seeing a licensed massage therapist, especially from Lunar Tides Massage & Wellness LLC, you will not only be educated on how to better your own habits for preventative self-care, but also have someone telling you where in YOUR body the issue is originating.
Luna Meddock, your LMT at Lunar Tides Massage & Wellness LLC, has very intuitive touch and the determination to work with you to reach your health and wellness goals. Using the tools of massage but also tools and information of knowing how the body responds to wellness activities, you will be provided full care in your massage session with the added perks of someone giving you tools to use at home! Massage is not an immediate cure, like anything involving the natural healing process, results are seen over the span of months. Only when you start incorporating new self-care habits in your life will you start to notice that the stress you experience is no longer prolonged in the body.
Massage is a natural preventative medical intervention option that can be combined with Physical Therapy, Chiropractic Therapy, and Exercise to enhance their treatments and affects, but also can be one on it's own.

The benefits from massage rely purely on what you are coming to massage for. This can be solving a pre-existing pain, or issue, or perhaps releasing the tension in your body from stress or working at the gym toward your health goals. Have small goals in mind before seeing your massage therapist, they can work with you to get a massage that maximizes what you are looking to get out of it.
